Alcohol 114 keer dodelijker dan cannabis

Uit een studie, gepubliceerd in Scientific Reports, blijkt dat cannabis 114 keer veiliger is dan alcohol. Alcohol is volgens het onderzoek de meest dodelijke drug en cannabis de veiligste.

De onderzoekers vergeleken een gemiddelde dosis alcohol, heroïne, cocaïne, tabak, xtc, crystal meth en cannabis met een dodelijke dosis. Zo bepaalden ze het sterfterisico van deze verschillende drugs. Uit de vergelijking bleek dat alcohol het dodelijkste is. Heroïne en cocaïne volgden alcohol op in het lijstje.  Doordat het moeilijk is om te sterven aan een joint, betitelden de onderzoekers cannabis met een “laag sterfterisico”.

Tijdens deze studie keken de onderzoekers alleen naar de sterftecijfers en niet naar de omstandigheden waarin de drugs genomen werd en de psychische gevolgen.
